About

Hi there! My name is Trevor, and I’m the creator of freshwatertemps.com. As a triathlete in training, I love swimming in open water when I can. There’s just one problem—I’m a wimp. I’m pretty particular about the water temperature. I’d rather not swim in cold water, and if I must, I’ll definitely be wearing a wetsuit.

Why I built this site

The inspiration for this site came from my own need to quickly access freshwater temperature trends across the U.S. The data provided by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is comprehensive, but their site can be challenging to navigate, especially if you’re only interested in water temperatures.

I figured that I couldn’t be the only person facing this problem, so I decided to create a user-friendly site to help fellow swimmers, triathletes, and outdoor enthusiasts get the information they need with ease. This site consolidates and presents up-to-date water temperature and trends data from the USGS, making it simple and efficient for anyone to check before heading out for a swim.

Safety first!

While this site is a great resource for checking water temperatures, please remember that it doesn’t provide information on other safety aspects, such as water cleanliness or flow conditions. For comprehensive safety information, it’s always best to consult your local or regional parks services or other relevant authorities.

Enjoy the water

Be safe out there, and happy swimming! Whether you’re enjoying a recreational swim, training for a triathlon, or just curious about water temperatures, I hope this site helps you plan your activities.

Thank you for visiting, and if you have any feedback or suggestions, feel free to reach out!
